OFF SNOW REVIEW:
The Giro S4 is essentially
a scaled down version of the Giro Nine. The S4
has a similar shape and design to the Nine with
more economical options and materials.
The fit is similar to the Nine, but not quite
as oval. The S4 will fit a "Roval" head
(a mix between oval and round). The padding in
the top of the helmet is soft, but is not super
comfortable. In the helmet I tried on, the ear
flaps didn't quite fit right with my ears, I felt
like they didn't come down far enough, but that
might just be on my ears.
The profile on the S4 is nice. It's not super
sleek, but certainly better than most. There are
only a few colors, but they are good colors. My
personal pick is the Chrome.
The S4 is fairly heavy on your head, similar to
the RED Helmet X and the K2 Helmets.
There are eight vents on the top of the helmet
with removable vent covers and there are 4 more
vents on the back of the helmet under the goggle
strap that are not covered. The vent plugs fit
fairly snug, but I do have concerns with losing
the covers since they are so small.
The internal padding is minimal, but efficient.
Like I said before, it's not as comfortable as
the Nine, but certainly not uncomfortable.
The strap system is simple and should pose no
major problems. The ear flaps are semi-rigid and
removable. They are not super plush, but soft
enough to be cozy. The goggle strap is a simple
rubber strap with a snap. The snap might be
a little tough to use with cold hands, but you
don't have to worry about losing your goggles!
The S4 is ASTM certified.
Overall, the S4 is a nice helmet. It is a decent
economical option to the Giro Nine, but I would
lean toward the Giro Nine over the S4 if you can
afford the extra $45.

SNOW REVIEW
Reminiscent
of the Giro Nine, but less expensive, the S4 is
a great fitting, great looking helmet.
Although not as lightweight as the Nine, the S4
is still relatively light compared to many helmets.
A short shell helmet, equipped with removable
earflaps, this helmets is perfect for a range
of weather conditions.
Not only do the ears come off, but the vent plugs
come out as well, for when you really start working
up a sweat.
Generously vented, this helmet has eight sizeable
vents on the top of the helmet and four in the
back. The vent plugs on top are removable, which
poses the same problem as any ventilation system
that is high maintenance. You have to remove your
helmet to open the vents, and there is a possibility
of misplacing the vents. Once you have your desired
ventilation adjusted, though, you will be pleased
with how cool this helmet will keep you on a warm
day.
The earflaps are soft and padded on the inside,
and plastic coated on the outside, with a mesh-covered
hole for better hearing. The earflaps are simple
to remove and replace. The plastic slides between
the shell and the foam and then snaps to the chin
strap externally - a really great, innovative
system.
With a fleece lined chinstrap and snap goggle
strap retention device, this helmet is a great
addition to the Giro line.
ASTM certified, this well ventilated, comfortable
Giro helmet is a great buy.

There
are days during the week when you just want to
find a few good lines away from the groomers,
maybe hit the park a few times, or just build
a kicker and launch yourself.
They’re called days off.
If you ride these days like we do, the S4™ is
all you really need.
It’s designed with an injection molded shell in
a short-cut style for wide-angle vision, and features
adjustable Weatherstrip™ ventilation like the
Nine.9™.
Only it’s on a budget, so you can afford to buy
your friends “lunch” on the mountain. Or gas for
the trip home. Or maybe you could even stretch
the weekend an extra day.
