Great venting system though, nice and cool in the spring and toasty warm in the winter.

Any Additional Comments: The TuneUp's II audio system is great. The sound quality is not as good as the RED system, BUT, the speakers fit right where they should be (unlike the RED). The tune ups II system has the ability to incorporate your cell phone into the mix so you can listen to tunes and chat on the slopes. It only works with select phones, but the selection seems pretty good. During our tests, the phone system worked great and the audio was easy to adjust when a call was coming in. There is a mic on the lapel of the helmet wire so you can keep your phone tucked away in your jacket. One thing we didn't like about the tuneup II system is that the cell phone option is not removable, so if you're not using it, you got quite a bit of extra wires. Not too big a deal, but it would be nice to disable the phone completely.

Giro Nine - Audio II 2004 Manufacturer Description

It sounds too good to be true: a helmet that practically disappears when you put it on, yet cranks out your favorite beats, riffs and sounds anywhere on the mountain, and can even let you stay in contact via your cell phone. But that's what you get with Giro's Audio Series II Helmets. And the best part is that it's all built-in, so you can listen to your favorite sounds and check-in with your crew without the discomfort of earbuds for a mess of cords. Just plug in and go. (*There are additional risks in snowsports when using audio series helmets or other earphones. Read and understand these risks posted in the owner's manual.*)

Audio Series II Helmets offer all of the performance of our standard TuneUps earpads, plus LINK technology from Skullcandy. The Link allows you to plug-in to your audio player and your cell phone at the same time, so you can listen to music and stay in touch without having to fumble for your phone or walkie-talkie. Includes a Y-split audio cord, an in-line control with built-in microphone for hands-free phone use, and multiple audio jacks for use with most popular phones.

Giro Nine Audio Features:

  • In-Mold Construction: In unity there is strength. That's the idea behind In-mold - a unique construction method that fuses a tough polycarbonate outer shell directly to the helmet's interior liner. The process reinforces the shell and liner together, so In-mold helmets feature larger vents while using less material, and you get a lighter, cooler helmet that feels like a part of you.
  • Goggle Notch: Every one of our helmets is designed to match-up with goggles for a comfortable, gapless fit. Our deep Goggle Notch is a simple detail that works in tandem with a security loop to keep goggles locked-in all day long. Because sometimes it's the little things that make the biggest difference.
  • Ventilation: 12 supercharged vents are as cool as you want to be, with Weatherstrip vent plugs to seal warmth in and cool out.
  • Weather Strip: High-performance features don't have to be complex. Giro's waterproof Weatherstrip vent plugs are lightweight, simple and highly effective for regulating your temperature when you're out on the hell. Just snap a set inside the helmet for a tight seal against the chill, or remove them to let excess heat radiate out. Everything should be so easy.
  • Removable Earpads: When was the last time you rode all day in conditions that didn't change? That's why helmets featuring removable earpads are more than a skate-style look. Our earpads are snap to install or remove, they lock-in to the helmets securely, and they offer a nice bit of extra warmth whenever you want it, without restricting your hearing.
  • Styling: Great peripheral vision with gapless goggle fit. Because you've gotta see it to hit it.
  • Certification: ASTM F2040, CE EN1078
  • Weight: 13.5 oz / 380 g
  • Giro will donate a portion of their White Flames Nine model sales to benefit the fight against breast cancer through the Boarding for Breast Cancer Foundation. This model features Giro's "Fight Breast Cancer" decal which cannot be removed.
